Zavvi's Retro zBox Review

March ZBox - Retro Theme
It's that time again.......For anyone who reads my blog (thank you, by the way, I do love you all).....I am on a quest to find the perfect Mystery/Geek subscription box for us, and up until now, I have loved zBox.  I have struggled to decide whether it's my number one or not, but after this month's box, it has lost it's number 1 spot.

Review: Sterling Silver Cubic Earrings

#Gifted

Before our son was born I used to wear all sorts of jewellery, especially necklaces and earrings, but I learnt very quickly that little hands do love to grab and especially necklaces.  So jewellery soon became a 'night out' accessory, but one piece of jewellery that does work - is stud earrings.

Saving for the future with Nutmeg

#AD
These last few months have been a bit of a mind field trying to find the ideal property to rent ready for when Max starts school next year!  Yes, we are moving so we are within the catchment area for 1 of 3 schools I would like Max to attend.

Because we are in rented - (and oh boy, does the world and his wife have an opinion on that!! and until you've walked a mile in my shoes you can keep those opinions to yourself!!) you would think we had more flexibility with moving.  To an extent we do, but we also have a little boy and a dog, and apart from not a lot on the rental market at the moment, what is on there offering 'family homes to let' don't like pets or worse children!!

Anyway, we have somewhere all being well at the end of next month.  I plan to stay at this property until Max starts school and then AND THEN we are going to set about the mammoth task of saving for a deposit for a mortgage, and this is where Nutmeg comes in.

User-Friendly ISA Website
Nutmeg.com is an investment website designed to help you save for the future.  Now for me, when I first looked at this website (and coming from a finance background...) I thought OMG what is this.... But.... I then found the very handy Try Nutmeg Out button.

I selected the criteria for what I need to be able to move once Max is at school, which basically is using his nursery fees as savings (hence waiting until he starts school).

Nutmeg.com sample portfolio

Once I entered my monthly contribution and lump sum, the chart shows where my ISA would be in 2019 (after getting over the shock that is only 4 years away....), this example is rather a good tool to show the risk involved with a 5% chance of loss to my target figure.

Review of Sample Portfolio on Nutmeg.com
This is actually a very useful website, and as you can see from the screenshot above, the sample setup can be used for General, ISA or Pensions.  There is an option to sign up once you have finished with the sample portfolio, which I am yet to do as I want to shop around the internet to see what options I have available to me as this is such a large investment to make.

Obviously because this is an investment there are risks involved and investments can go down as well as up, and for me, I don't know if I want to have any risk when it comes to securing a deposit for my home that I want my boy to grow up in, my dog to grow old in and for me and my partner to settle down in.

Here's to saving for the future.

5 Fandom Friday: My Comfort Films

I do love reading the Fandom Friday posts over at Female Geek Bloggers network, and this week the theme is Comfort Films.  FAB!

For me, my 5 Comfort Films are also my top 5 films and whilst I love Peter Parker, Bumblebee and Potter, not one of these make my top 5 - in fact, my list is rather 'normal'!!

So in reverse order and in at number 5 is Love Actually!

Yes, a romcom no less - and I'm not ashamed.  My favourite character in the film is Billy Mack played by Bill Nighy and it's just a feel-good film, with snippets of so many lives where you're rooting for couples to get together, stay together and find each other.  Bring on the tissues.. or at least a big awww sigh and chocolates.

Next up is Ponyboy and Jonny and the rest of the Greasers in The Outsiders.

Oh, my days!  This film was the first film ever to make me cry!  I remember watching this film at home with my bestie, and the pair of us were blubbing like a couple of kids by the end of it, rather shocking ourselves!  I love it, so much so I nearly peed my pants when I found out that C.Thomas Howell and Ralph Macchio were at the winter Comicon in London last year!

There's not much in the next two but at number three is Dogma!

I originally thought it was because I may have a little thing for Matt Damon as to the reason why this is number 3 but, to be honest, I love him in all his films and quite possibly Good Will Hunting is my favourite of his, so I think he just helps.  I love the comedy of this film and basically, it has a great cast to it.  This for sure is one of my go-to films if I want to cheer up!

My penultimate comfort film - Stardust!

Love this film, love the storyline, love a bit of fantasy and who doesn't love Robert De Niro dancing around in a dress?  This is the film I get lost in, willing the boy who works in a shop to see what's in front of him and how much his star loves him....... ahhhhhhh, beginning to realise I may be a bit of a softie!

My number one film - Stand By Me. (anyone who knows me will not be shocked by this).

I watched this film with my friends, my good friends a lifetime ago.  It reminds me of being young, it reminds me of the adventures we would get up to and that you never really have friends like you do when you're twelve..... , that and at the end of the film when Chris Chambers fades out of Gordie's life, I always choke a little as I really was a die-hard River Phoenix :-(  It will forever be my number film.

So what is your number 1 comfort film?
