Do you turn your mattress?

#AD
Currently on my wishlist!
Whilst looking at some rather fabulous bed lining online the other day, I was asked by my partner what size our bed was.  "It's King Size" I replied quite confidently until I heard the words "Are you sure?".... I had to stop for a minute and think about what size the last set of bed lining I bought was!  It always amazes me how those 3 words can make me doubt myself in a second!

I found myself referring to rather useful buyers guide from Tesco Direct on mattresses and not only does it give you the measurements on each of the bed sizes it also gives you a guide on what each size would ideally be used for AND the different types of mattresses that are around.

I would love a super king-size bed again.  We used to have one a few years ago but when we moved we really didn't have the room for it so we downsized, but what I didn't miss was turning the mattress!   At least with our current one, I can do this one on my own, but a super king really is a two man job!

To turn that big old beaut I would have to grab the ends, shimmy it up against me, raise it up above me and then fold it in half (yep a big no-no in the mattress world).  This involved me bending over WITH the mattress, sometimes that took a couple of attempts..... I couldn't just flip it over due to lack of space plus it would just flick back on itself (and me!).  So once folded in half I would rock it slightly, balance it and flick the bottom out - usually sending me flying in the processes!!

So with that being said, I'd go for a mattress you don't need to turn if I ever went big again - I am liking the sound of the non-turn pillow top!

Do you have any stories about turning your mattress or is it just me that finds the difficulty route?

I was right by the way.... my bed is king size :-)

9 common phrases from a parent of a boy

NOW, as a mother of a boy, I understand this poem!

Over the past month I've found myself saying the most strangest of phrases to my son!  To me, a girl, they are strange - to my partner they are amusing - possibly because he may well have heard these phrases himself when he was a lad.

Boys are made of slugs and snails and puppy dog tails - I always thought this was a bit harsh on boys when I was younger - oh hell NO!  In fact that mixture is rather pleasant!! More like boys are made of snot and worms and puppy dog bumholes!

Our Caterpillars, safe in their tubs and not in my son's mouth......

These are the phrases I found myself saying in the last 6 weeks that made me stop and say to myself 'Oh My Days did I really just say that'...........

* Stop licking the floor!

* Stop poking the dog's bum!

* I'm not talking to you until you stop playing with your willy!
(I'm sure I've said this one to his dad a couple of times too....)

* Stop tasting the dog's food!

* Whatever you're doing stop eating it!

* Stop putting your finger up my nose.

* Get that Lego out your bum!

* Did you just feed the dog your boogies?

Either one of them will eat an ice-cream, boogies or a worm!

And one that I heard daddy say ....

* Put it away and stop playing with your balls!

Snot, Sea air and Crabs

Never a dull moment and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love this boy.  Slugs, snails, snot and all

How to display your Lego Minifigures in a picture frame.

It would appear the upcycling bug has been passed on to my partner!  The following post is how he turned a £5 charity shop picture frame into an awesome Lego mini-figure display frame.

What amazed me the most about this is the fact this was whipped up in one weekend - and yet I still have the same shoes I'm covering for what feels like forever.

The first step was to dismantle the picture frame and spray the wood frame black - a 2-minute job for some who is a paint sprayer by trade.......

Painted picture frame
Completed in seconds!  Me, I'd still be messing around with the tape!
Left overnight to dry we decided on red background wallpaper for the images to be placed in front of, and I knew exactly which paper would look superb - and I wasn't wrong!

Adding a background sheet to the frame
Sticking the paper to the back of the frame
This fabulous paper is from the Gorjuss range and even if you didn't go with a theme I think it looks rather lovely with just the plain white border.

Looking good
Now, there is no shortage of mini-figures in the house and watch this space for how 'we' created a Lego stand for the Simpsons and Superheroes, but for this post - we went Star Wars, and thanks to one of my zBox geek boxes - we had the perfect comic to use:

Left to dry overnight we then raided the 'random' Lego box and found some single line Lego to glue to the bottom of the individual framing areas.

No idea of technical name - I just call them long skinny ones
Adding lego to secure the mini figure
Glueing to the base of each frame to secure the mini figure

And there we have it.  All that is left is to decide who makes the cut and display it on the wall.

Awesome!

Creating a Marvel themed bedroom

Well, we've finally moved out, moved in and unpacked and if the bathroom wasn't such a 'public' place, my boy's room would have been the first room we tackled.  It was the first (and only) room we painted and this started before we even moved in by painting one of his walls 'Spider-man' red.
