Learn to Earn - the Jangle way

what is Jangle and how can we teach our children to Learn to Earn

At the end of last year I wrote about Janglethe new app which is designed to help educate kids on how to manage their money, and now this app is available from the apple store free to download.

Following on from the launch, Experian now has an infographic in relation to the campaign which is fronted by the inspirational Sarah Willingham, who you may recognise from Dragon's Den.  Sarah has been working with Experian to develop the learn to earn app.  Sarah also has her own website Let's Save Money which is full of money-saving tips.

So, below I'm sharing with you the infographic that Experian has put together, and I'm sure you'll find it as fascinating as I did.  Can you relate to some of these stats?  Are you among the 21% of parents who say their child always saves for the things they want?  or is your child among the 85% of children who don't have to earn their pocket money?  Quite a lot of food for thought here, wouldn't you agree?

The new Jangle app is aimed at 9 - 11-year-olds, but that is not to say you can't start this app with younger children, it certainly can cater to them!

My son is just a bit too young for Jangle at present but I'm preparing him now with how to save.  Maybe not to the extent to earning his pennies as such, but when he does receive money from granddad he puts it in his jar and when we go shopping he takes his pennies with him to buy a toy, "as these will not be on mummy's shopping list".

So as you can tell, we're not quite ready for Jangle but in a couple of years with Max already understanding how savings work, he'll be able to use Jangle (hopefully on android....) by then to its full potential.

  1. Haven't come across Jangle but we're using a website Qwiddle for pocket money which I guess is broadly similar.

  2. My blog post from last year included a free £5 if you set up a Qwiddle account and I don't think there was an end date on the offer, if you want to take a look https://blogmumjd.wordpress.com/2015/06/17/qwiddle-the-online-piggy-bank-plus-free-5-offer/
