Hurrah! Winter is finally over and Spring has arrived! We may not be basking in sunshine quite yet, but the days are longer, flowers are beginning to bloom, and chocolate egg season is upon us. Whether you are starting to plan egg hunts for the kids, or you want to take advantage of light evenings with a glass of wine or an al fresco dinner, it is important that your garden is a place you actually like to spend time in. Here are some tips on making the most of your outside space, without spending hours maintaining it.Furniture
A few key pieces of furniture can make a huge difference to a garden. It is time to get rid of any ancient crumbling benches or plastic chairs, which pose the risk of breaking each time you sit on it. If there is no space for a table set, consider a couple of garden armchairs for a more comfortable place to sit and watch the kids play. You don’t have to spend huge amounts of money on completely replacing all the furniture you already have, of course, upcycling is another great idea, but perhaps it’s time to treat yourself to a little piece of luxury as you are more likely to want to sit somewhere comfortable, and beautiful.
Flowers and Plants
Gardening is the most obvious way to transform any garden space. While it is definitely a skill that usually takes some time, there are simple and painless ways to grow a garden this spring that will make a big visual difference, the internet is full of tips on the easiest plants to maintain for those of us without much free time. For instance, you might use planter boxes for a more manicured look, which are as simple as buying at the market and putting them in your garden. Ivy is also easy to plant and it grows pretty much without any extra work on your part. Plus, as the Ivy begins to creep up the walls, it can save you time and effort in repainting unsightly walls and outdoor spaces.
Crafts
There are many garden crafts that can help to make your outdoor space a vision of a character. You can take the opportunity to express your personality without having to put more than a bird feeder or house up. It is as simple or as hard as you make it, as you can buy them from the craft store or make them at home with your kids! Some examples might be making bird feeders with the kids, attracting wildlife to your garden is a wonderful idea, plus you can then begin a bird watching book with the children who will enjoy identifying the different species.
Lighting
Lights aren’t only for Christmas! A few nice lights in your garden can make it look magical, and might encourage you to go out and look at the stars once in a while. Any drab outdoor space can be transformed into a mystical and whimsical wonderland with just some fairy lights. Experiment and have fun with the placement and be sure to check that whatever lights you use are waterproof. Whether you want to invest in some more classic, and perhaps more long-lasting garden lights or you prefer to use durable rope lighting, the possibilities are endless.
Fresh air is great for adults and kids alike, and even if you only have a small backyard, there are ways to make the most of what you have got. This has the ability to make your home even more special. What is stopping you?
