I've resorted to accepting the fact that I'm going to need to get up an hour before the rest of the house to get fit! I have seen a great workout website which issues calendars and Youtube videos to follow, and as I'm one for a tick box and a list I think it will be perfect for me until my son has mastered his wheels.Nope, I'm not talking about his bike or his scooter, although you can get adult scooters and go off for the day along the promenade as a family. Oh no, I'm talking about his skateboarding skills!
What a great alternative to getting fit? To grab your skateboard (or in my case, it would be skating) and roll on home from school! I know it's not conventional, and most of us parents of primary school aged children take a scooter, but wouldn't it be fab to skate?
Or is that just my inner skater girl trying to come out?
Now I'm not suggesting we all go out and aspire to be the next Tony Hawk or encourage our child to, but what a great way to get fit and have fun.
You don't need to skate home from school if you feel uncomfortable, I'm not entirely sure I would be, to be honest, but what about visiting skate parks?
Back in my day....... we didn't have any local skate parks. We would use the road (that's nice and safe eh!) to get to the promenade to spend hours just hanging out, doing random tricks and being kids, and if it was bad weather we'd be in the local shopping centre when it was shut - (possibly shouldn't admit that) for its lovely smooth floors.
My son has already shown an interest in skateboards, much to my delight, but he's a long way off being comfortable balancing on one (let alone help me burn some calories, hence my opening comment of the need to get up an hour early), and if you're wondering why we've chosen to go down the skateboard route rather than boots, I'm going to leave you with this little video of us at last year's Kidtropolis Roller Disco............and I can skate!!
So what do you think? Is this something you'd try?

No skating is not for me, but I'm certainly pleased with my progress at running over the last year
ReplyDeleteI envy runners! I used to be such a good runner then I got lazy and unfit and now I can't do it!! :(
DeleteI've gone from zero to 5k fit. Start with a very short distance and I'm sure you'll be able to get back to where you were
