Review of Spymonkey's COOPED at the Pavillion Theatre

Time for you to forget about your day and your troubles for Spymonkey's COOPED is here to help you enjoy 85 minutes of silly fun and snort-worthy laughter as the cast take you on a journey through a spooky mansion.

Spymonkey's COOPED Synopsis

Beautiful Laura Du Lay arrives in the heart of darkest Northumberlandshirehampton to work for the reclusive Forbes Murdston, ignoring the unsettling rumours that surround him and his ominous manservant Klause.

If only Roger Parchment, the family lawyer, were not so obviously in love with her!  Then she could confide in him her darkest fears: is Forbes really the killer who lurks in the darkness?

A spooky mansion, a plucky young heroine and a handsome English aristocrat.  Add a German butler and a Spanish soap star and you're ..... COOPED.

Contains Nudity.

My thoughts on Spymonkey's COOPED

Although Spymonkey productions have been running for 20 years, this was the first time I'd been to one of their shows, and to say it was an eye opener and jaw dropper is an understatement.

Billed as Hitchcock’s Rebecca meets The Pink Panther, COOPED had a very silly, traditional slapstick, Laurel and Hardy humour about it.

We watch as the pretty, naive Laura finds herself in some very provocative positions whenever she faints from witnessing unkindness, and the men try and move a rather uncooperative, sometimes floppy..... sometimes hard.... Laura.  The audience roaring with laughter.

There is an element of mild swearing, innuendos and some full frontal nudity.  You will be chuckling and sometimes just full on snorting with laughter at the antics that go on in the mansion as Laura tries to make it through the night without getting killed off.

If you enjoy silly, are a fan of slapstick and laugh at bottom burps... this is the show for you.  Not all who attend will enjoy this, some will get up and walk out, but for those who do, all I can think is why did you come?  Did you not read any reviews or take notices of the 'warnings' that this is slapstick, that there is swearing and nudity?

Spymonkey have a rather large following, and those who attended on Wednesday had a brilliant, relaxing and chilled out evening, and left feeling a lot happier, and maybe a little bit ruder and sillier than when they came in.

Who are Spymonkey

Head of Culture Amanda O’ Reilly said "We're thrilled to be programming partners as part of Brighton Festival, this year's programme is as innovative as ever. It is fantastic to join forces with the BF team to bring high quality culture to the South Coast."
