Brighton Sea Life Centre Hosts Day And Night Theme

SEA LIFE Brighton is the oldest operating aquarium in the world and has just launched a state of the art new attraction Day & Night, which opened its doors to the public in May 2019.

After a £2.7 million renovation, Day & Night offers visitors the chance to experience the 24-hour wonder of a coral reef as it transitions through the day.  Day & Night will showcase the UK’s largest collection of sharks and rays in the UK along with a plethora of fascinating marine life in both a day and a nocturnal environment.

What you can expect at Brighton Sea Life Centre

Home to over 840 stunning sea creatures, the impressive 700,000 litre display houses: Black Tip Reef Sharks, Zebra Sharks, Honeycomb Stingrays and Fantail Sting Rays amongst many other spectacular reef dwellers.

The Ocean Tunnel will take you on an immersive journey - from the brightly lit, bustling daytime reef to the mystery of the reef by night, creating a sensation that you are diving through the swaying corals as the turtles, rays and jewel coloured reef fish glide past just inches from your fingertips.

A huge 5 metre-viewing screen offers a window onto the world of the reef by day.  Breath-taking Coral outcrops provide a backdrop to a stunning array of colourful turtles and reef fish such as sweetlips, Sailfin Snappers, Butterflyfish and Clown Triggerfish.

By night, the atmosphere of the ocean changes dramatically as nocturnal creatures such as Popsicle Squirrelfish and Nurse Sharks emerge from their slumber bringing in a new dynamic to the spectacle.   Submerged caves and hidden corners of the reef reveal the mysteries of the ocean under darkness and the secrets lurking within, while bio luminescent soft corals exude their mysterious glow.

What's new at Brighton Sea Life from May 2019:

  • Visitors enter the Day & Night experience under a recreation of Brighton’s West Pier, a nod to the original aquarium designer Eugenius Birch, also responsible for the West Pier.
  •  Above the water visitors will enjoy the striking artwork of Turtle Beach, illustrating the behaviour of turtles by day and by night, as they come in from the ocean and nest.
  •  A glass bottom boat allows you to get up close with a stunning array of sea creatures travelling across both day and night.
  • Delight in splashing around in the glowing waves of a bio-luminescent beach projection mapping experience – a real ‘Must See’.
  • A Brighton graffiti artwork spray painted by Brighton street art alumni Req provides a colourful backdrop to the newly refurbished auditorium.
  • Relax under a canopy of stars and learn about conservation, global warming, feeding turtles and the life of a shark in hourly talks from Sea Life Brighton’s expert marine biologists.
  • There’s also the chance to take a selfie with a giant Lion Fish mural.
