That funny old year called 2020

I had so many plans for 2020, which to be fair, hasn't all gone completely out the window!

I have always got a plan on the go, and if you've seen my video you'll know what my ultimate goal is.  I had/have three main goals for 2020 and surprising, given the state of the world right now, I'm not doing too bad!!

1.    Look into working from home.

Well, that was forced on me!  It wasn't what I had in mind, but it's funny how the universe has other ideas for you when you're not specific!  I assumed this would be me working from home doing my upcycling and home decor crafts and selling for a good enough profit that I didn't need my 'day job'.

Well, that's not happened, but I am currently working from home, with the aim to stay working for home until the new year at least.  I'll be using my time during my lunch breaks and early afternoon to rethink how I progress on to owning a donkey sanctuary.

2.    Clear my debt

This is massive and I've not done this yet, I'm on track to clear this by October.  It's a massive deal as it's a huge debt that I've had for a ridiculously long time due to stupid irresponsible money choices.

I'll write a whole post about this, a clue is in my about me page, but I've learnt so much from my bad choices I'll never go back to that position again.

3. Buy my own home.

I'm not ready for this one.  I need to save like a crazy person as soon as my debt is cleared.  I've just read that mortgage companies are cutting back on giving out mortgages due to the recession we are now in.

Banks are wanting more than 10% deposit and some days it feels like I will never get there, it feels like a moving goal just outside my reach!!

A bit like pensions!  I don't think I'll ever reach retirement age, it keeps moving back!!

That being said, I have no idea at present what I can borrow or what the repayments would be anyway!  This evening I plugged my details into the Morgage Calculator.  It's a useful little site that shows what your payments would be each month and has graphs on the decreasing payments.

It does also show interest only, but no-one should be using this option!  Not unless you're 100% sure you've got a lump sum coming!  Pay the capital off.
Mortgage Chart from Calculator

There is some useful information on the website on mortgages to help you understand what you need if a first-time buyer, but like I said, I've got a long way to go before I'm in a position to use this chart again.

I'll never give up and 2021 will involve saving like a crazy person!

Did you achieve your 2020 goals?

  1. I didn't have any real 2020 goals. I need to work on my debt, that's for sure!
