Where to donate the contents of a home when someone dies.

At the beginning of the year, my father-in-law passed away and my partner was tasked with the emotional job of sorting and clearing the house.

This is an emotional ordeal for anyone to go through, the contents of the home are not just contents!  It is memories, it is reminders, it is home!  We are still working through this but I hope, that writing this post, it will help others who are struggling and give you some ideas on how to make those personal possessions, medical equipment and home contents live on or be donated rather than calling in a house clearance company.

The unknown side effects of Covid19

There are not many people I know now who haven't contracted Covid19, but thanks to our vaccination program many have had it mild.  What I have noticed, we all had different side effects, and the doctors have said as much, that the Covid19 side effects are an unknown area.

Against my better judgement, I ordered our Christmas meat with Sainsburys.  I put down a £20 deposit for our food and arranged to pick this food up on Wednesday 22nd December.  

Then we got covid!

What I should have done is gone to my local butchers!  Keeping it local and supporting small businesses.  Rest assured, this experience will stay with me and will remind me every winter to stay local!

We had a young starling in the garden, I think it may have been lost or confused as it wasn't with the rest of the flock it was on its own near the bird feeder.  I'm going to assume he was waiting for the rest of the flock to come back.

Hairdressers are so much more than someone who cuts your hair

I have a wonderful hairdresser who I've missed terribly during these lockdown periods, with Lockdown 3 being the worst!

After being in lockdown for 4 months, and my hair living in that 'Lockdown Bun' I was almost excited to see my hairdresser in April.  I say almost because I had not faired well in LD3, I'd gone very inside myself and really not venturing out the house at all, so the thought of leaving to travel, in my car no less, to another town was rather daunting!

The NHS website issues news points each day, and one, in particular, caught my attention.  The NHS is rolling out a headache-busting gadget across the country.   The gadget is designed to be held against the neck and delivers a low-level electric current to block pain signals, relieving pain from people suffering from 'cluster' headaches.

Approximately 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with having cluster headaches, after being told I had flu every time I went to the doctors, to finally going private and being told I suffer from severe migraines, brought on by my monthly hormonal change and that I didn't have cluster headaches!

How I'm coping with Lockdown 3 and Home Schooling

I really don't know how I'm coping this time around! I know I'm on the edge each day and can't focus past that day.

When Bojo announced the South East was going into lockdown from Boxing Day, I felt dishearted but knew it had to happen.  It wasn't anything new, it meant we couldn't go to wonderful events like Wakehurst again any time soon but it also meant we were being safe.

I didn't want the schools to close though.  I know that is selfish of me and I'm not thinking of the teachers and support staff and everyone else, but I have one child who is extremely sociable and loves time with his friends.  I wanted him to interact with his peers, to see other people and be a 9-year-old running around in the fresh air.  Not spending day after day with his old fart of a mother.

Well, the year 2020 has certainly given us many events to talk about from lockdowns to home-schooling to the return of Covid19 which hadn’t died out the first time around.

For me, the most astonishing event this year has been the denial from the 45th American President, Mr Donald Trump, that he lost the 2020 election and will not be spending a second term in office. 

 
The American election vote took place on 3rd November but the results were long in coming and drawn out. This extra amount of time for counting had been put down to the fact that many more Americans had used the postal voting system this year due to the Covid19 pandemic.

As I sit here thinking about the 'New Normal' and hating that phrase I start to ask myself ...

Where can I get in free with my Blue Peter Badge in the South East?

I say MY Blue Peter badge, but in fact, it's my 8-year-old son who received his badge during the lockdown.

He sent off his artwork in March, at the beginning of the lockdown, in the post to Blue Peter.  The website does state that it can take 10 weeks to receive a badge, and true to their word, it took 10 weeks.
