The friends you have when you are 12....

The friends you have when you are 12....

My friends will know the title of this post is in relation to my all-time favourite film - Stand by Me.

Last night I started to semi-watch a program called Dark Matters: Twisted but True and the episode was on Monster Study which was a stuttering experiment conducted on orphans in 1939.   I didn't get to watch much of the program as I drifted off thinking about when I was 11 and living up at my nan's (I'll leave that explanation for a whole other blog).

My nan lived on an estate which had many blocks of flats and maisonettes.  Opposite her flat M lived.  She was the same age as me and I'd known her for a few years now as before I went to live with my nan I used to visit every summer and M became one of my goods friends.  She had a stutter and she got picked on - ALOT!

I didn't go to the same school as M when I moved up to Kingston so I never saw her get picked on there, but she would tell me all about it at the weekends or in the evening when we'd play out until dark.  The local kids would laugh at her and just be mean!  She'd whack them one and run off crying and would spend a lot of time in her bedroom with the largest amount of Barbie (or was it Sindy back then?!) accessories known to man!

I haven't thought about M in a long time and this awful Monster Study really pulled at my heart to think back about how M struggled in her childhood years just to communicate with everyone.

Think it's quite obvious by the pictures who got married ;)
(I swear I've got my mouth open in most of my pictures !!)

BZZAgent : E45 Review

BZZAgent : E45 Review

I was recently chosen by BzzAgent to review E45 body lotion, for those who have not heard of BzzAgent before, please do check the site out.  It is a review site which chooses people based on their situations to review products on behalf of manufacturers and to write an honest review on Bzzagent and discuss with friends and family.  There is no requirement to write up a blog post, you don't need to be a blogger to apply.

So, back to my E45 cream.....

My nan always swore by E45 cream, and because I thought my nana was the Oracle, whatever she used to use, I use!  So I use E45 regularly on my son's cheeks when they are dry from the cold weather and it works wonders.  We always have a tub in the house and I'm forever telling daddy to use it on his hands.

So when I received my bounty of E45 goodies I was quick to hand out all my samples to friends and colleagues and most had never used E45 cream before let alone body lotion.

I must admit I've never used E45 as a body lotion (and didn't even know that it existed!) until recently.  I love it!  I've been using the E45 Moisturising Lotion for the past week and it does indeed leave my skin feeling smooth and that 'fresh out the bath' feeling - you need this with babies do you not?

But you don't need to just take my word for it, you can now request a free sample from the E45 website so do come back and let me know if you agree with me.

I am a BzzAgent and was sent these packets to review and report back to BzzAgent my findings and also let my friends and family know how I found the product.

Parenting: Car journeys with babies

I read the other day that a woman's car is an extension of her handbag, and post baby for me, they're not far wrong!  My car is now a tip and the other day I was rather glad!

Yes this little bundle can fill up a car

I picked Max up from nursery and we set off home; this should have taken a maximum of 15-20 minutes.

It took an hour.

There had been an accident so we had no choice but to sit and crawl along until we got home.  I never moan about sitting in traffic because you don't know what has happened and how bad would you feel moaning that you were going to be late for tea when some poor soul could have lost their life??  Think about it!

Anyway I am glad my car is a tip as Max at 18th months and a full day at his nursery was in no mood to be stuck in the car for an hour and he lasted 45 minutes which I think was brilliant  (the last 15 minutes to our house were pure hell though).

First 10 minutes we sang.  Well, I kinda sang and Max boogied and did the actions.

Next 15 minutes I found a tube of Pringles (thank you daddy for forgetting to take them in the house) so we ate.

Next 5 minutes I managed to reach back and give Max a book so he 'read'.

30 minutes in and I'm now pushing my luck.

Next 15 minutes were spent playing on mummy's phone.  That soon joined the half eaten pringles and book on the floor!

Then he was bored, no CD, no singing and no book would satisfy him and he cried and whined the rest of the way home and the only time he went quiet was when I took his shoes off !?!?

Note to self - must add more supplies in the car.

Review: Personalised Gifts

If you've read my Comic Letters blog you'll know that I love anything personalised.  So I was very keen to try out They'll Love it Personalised Gifts website.

They'll Love it is a new website and as the website suggests it specialises in personalised gifts.  To help you shop around for a present there are several pages across the top such as Birthdays, Weddings and Back to School.

With father's day coming up you could purchase a world's best dad mug and have it signed by your little ones.

Lambing Season at Coombes Farm

Lambing Season at Coombes Farm

It's April, which means one thing for us - It's Lambing Season up at our local farm - Coombes Farm.

My son has never been to Coombes farm, I think I was a kid the last time I went and daddy doesn't think he's ever been so we were all very excited to take the trip up to the farm.  Coombes is not like Tulleys or Washbrooks farm.  It doesn't have a large tea room or children's play area.  This is a working farm and it's only focus is the farm but does open up to the public when it's lambing season.  It has barns, it has a tractor and it has a real feel of nature at its finest.

When I was in Hobbycraft to get my supplies (basically that usually means stocking up on my bucket of Mod Podge), which I needed for my first decoupage attempt I noticed they sold some basic letters, and we all know what basic means - "let's cover".  So of course, these letters gave me the idea of doing something for my best friend's birthday.

I don't know about you but I love anything with my name on, obviously stems back to my childhood when I'd go to school with my name on all my pencils, pencil case and door sign!  So I thought I'd buy the relevant letters I needed and cover them in comic strip pages.  But before doing it, I wanted to do a test run in case my new craft skills were not up to the challenge!
Craft: Making Comic Book Art Letters

So I bought the letters to spell out GEEK whilst I was there.  The comics came from both the shop downtown (oh yes, we have an old style comic book store that sells all sorts of collectable stuff in it, great little place) or eBay and armed with my bucket of Mod Podge I set about cutting up the comics and gluing them on the letters.

As with anything worth doing this is quite time-consuming if you wish to eliminate edges and white lines.  With the wording GEEK, I cut out several images as well as strips and you can see on the K quite clearing that Stark is kissing Pepper in the top image but I've cut out Iron Man underneath to give that nice overlay look.

I'm really pleased with the finished look, I did cover the comics with a layer of Mod Podge to protect the letters, and I have to admit, I do love them and to my great pleasure, my friend also loves them.

So what do you think?  The great thing about my friend's name - you can't tell that I've actually got the N upsidedown and back to front in the photo......

Easter visit to Washbrooks Farm

Greeted by a chicken at the local farm - like you do
As we all know this Easter was freeeeeeeezing but there was no way we were going to spend 4 days at home, under the duvet watching films eating chocolate.... oh but I soo wanted to (and would have done pre-baby days).

I saw Washbrooks Farm on Kallikids website and as its only 'up the road' for us, we decided to go Easter Monday.  There was an Easter egg hunt going on in the afternoon but we function better in the mornings as Max tends to have a lunchtime sleep from around 12.30 til 2.30 then to get him ready and out the door is nearer 3pm and the day is almost over.
