5 things to carry on the school run

Now I am working from home, I can walk my son to school and pick him up again at the end of the day.

What I have found is that I can't just grab my keys and go, no, I need to take the following with me as I never know which way the day is going to go.

1.  Matchbox

This week, it has become apparent that we may need to start carrying some form of beastie transport with us.  For the odd occasion, we may see a bee in some distress and need a little sugary pick-me-up (I can relate).  This tends to happen more in the winter months than in summer.

2. Scoop

I have started to take my measuring cup with me on the walk to/from school.  This is in case we see any beastie who has landed on the pavement rather than the shrub or grass.  Our latest rescue was to move a stag beetle who was on a very busy footpath, and as we didn't have a scoop, we had to make do with random sticks and leaves.

3. Umbrella

Do not be deceived by that bright sunshine when you step out of the house.  It will rain as soon as you are too far up the road to turn around and get an umbrella and still get to the school on time.

4. Change

For the day the school have a tuck shop or ice cream sale at the end of the day, with the only communication of this event being that they told your child the day before!

5. Snack

My son can't possibly go 12 minutes from school to home without "absolutely starving" yet not that hungry to eat a banana.

Optional extras

Gloves, grabber and bag for when your child would like to carry out an impromptu street clean up, this is never discouraged, but we must have the right equipment with us.

Have I missed anything? What are your "must-haves" for a calm peaceful and fun walk to/from school?
