Fandom Friday - 5 Fictional Vehicles I'd Love To Travel In

I do love reading the Fandom Friday posts over at the Female Geek Bloggers network; this week the theme is Fictional Vehicles I'd Love to Travel In :-)

Review: Fun to Learn First Friends Magazine

#Gifted
First Friends magazine is the only multi-character magazine which is aimed specifically at toddlers and parents.
Fun to Learn First Friends Magazine
We were recently given the opportunity to review the brand spanking new children's magazine - Fun to Learn First Friends and I must say I'm very happy with this one.

Over the pa,st year we've gone through quite a few children magazines in our house, and it's usually driven by the toy on the front... which then lasts about a day, 2 at best before it's knackered and the magazine doesn't get a look in - sounds familiar?

I'm rather pleased to report that this didn't happen with the First Friends magazine.  Max was immediately drawn to the adorable Hungry Caterpillar tea set (which is still going strong 3 weeks on!), but he's also been taking an interest the magazine itself.

This may be because this magazine is the only multi-character magazine which is aimed specifically at toddlers and parents.  Therefore, we were able to go through the magazine together and talk about each page, be it sticker related, colouring or completing mazes and characters that we know very well such as Elmer and the Gruffalo.

The magazine currently lives on the dining room table and every couple of days or so we go through another few pages after dinner and before bed, it's a nice way to just sit together and chat before the bedtime routine kicks in.

The magazine is designed to inspire and entertain 2 - 4 year olds and is rather reasonably priced at £2.99 and as an added bonus - for my comping friends - watch out for the first issue as there is also a chance for your little one to win a prizes or to :-)

Disclaimer : I received First Friends from Redan to review.
The above wording is all my own and not influenced over products received.

What plants are poisonous to cats and dogs?

What plants are poisonous to cats and dogs - 78% of british gardens contain them.
The MORE TH>N poisonous pawtanical garden

You'd be surprised at the answer to this, but MORE THN have found that 78% of British gardens contain plants that are toxic to cats and dogs!  The findings come as MORE TH>N and Charlie Dimmock launch a new Pet Safe Campaign to raise awareness of the issue of cats and dogs being poisoned by common household plants and flowers.

How I created my decoupage shoes for Comicon

Oh this may be my favourite creation to date!! I am in love with my shoes!

When I created my new POP! shelf I fell in love with the DC material and so made my bangle... oh but I had so much more of this material left and no bangle is complete without new shoes to go with it, (Yeah that's a thing), and so my wonder-woman DC shoes were born.

I have a rather exciting new competition for my readers and it involves HobbyCraft!  I know exciting right!  The lovely people over at Bedroom Storage Makers want to know your top tips and tricks for upcycling or revamping your home.

For me, plain boring wooden storage boxes have the most potential, especially if old and dated as these can be covered in chalkboard paint, comic book pages or one of my favourites - Harry Potter pages and give you that new WOW factor again.

Do you have a clever use for old jam jars, toilet rolls or milk bottles?  Here's how you could win £25 to spend at Hobbycraft:

Let me know your tips/tricks for upcycling or revamping your home.  You can either:

Lots of choices but only 1 entry per person, please.

I will update this post with my favourite tips by 31st July, and from that list choose my overall favourite.  That tip will then be added to Bedroom Storage Maker's blog and not only will you be credited for your tip but you will also receive a £25 Gift Voucher - how does that sound?

Look forward to reading your tips, good luck xoxo

My favourite tips from my readers :

Cate: I upcycled some milk cartons and bottles in to this water wall for the kids
Jennifer: My tip would be to use keep old clothes to make into new things. Baby clothes make gorgeous quilts... I still have the maternity dresses that I plan on using to make some nice dresses for my daughter.
Esther: My tip is to salvage fabric squares from old clothes- baby clothes are nice as they have sentimental value, and upcycle them into new blankets and cushions
Natasha:I love using toilet rolls in crafts. I have made some toilet roll kids candles, I have used them as seedling trays. But my favourite thing I have made with them was my toilet roll advent calendar.
Jennie: My latest up-cycle project has been painting used car tyres with bright masonry paint and then stacking them up as plant fillers and birdbaths.

I wish I had more vouchers, there were so many great tips, but my favourite thrifty up-cycling tip is:

I use old clothes to make cushions or toys for cats and
donate them to an animal sanctuary

Congratulations Jenni, you've won yourself £25 Hobbycraft voucher.

Revamping an old bangle into a Comic-Con Accessory

Whist I'm very much a Marvel mad fan I do have a little soft spot for Wonder Woman, so when I saw these old bangles in the charity shop for 50p I just knew straight away which material I was going to use to cover them!

Last year I'd created my own geeky shelf to home my POPs by using some lovely material I'd sourced on eBay and I've been dying to use it again!

Revamping my Old Bangle to ComiCon Accessory
Using up my Wonder Woman material
I used a piece of ribbon to measure the width I needed to wrap around the bangle and cut the material accordingly.

Because I didn't fancy using a tape measure
Revamping my Old Bangle to Comic-Con Accessory
Marking out the width needed for the bangle
Once the material was cut to size I covered the entire bangle with Mod Podge and slowly worked the material round the bangle.
Revamping my Old Bangle to Comic-Con Accessory
One half of the bangle completed
Because the ribbon helped with the actual width needed the second half of the material folds over nicely into the inside of the bangle and the Mod Podge holds it all in place perfectly.

Brilliant, quick and easy fix to a 50p bangle for any accessories fan - Geeky or otherwise.

Inside covered nicely.

Yes this may have been worn a few times to work, no need to wait for the next Comic-Con to come to town.....

Fandom Friday : 5 Favourite Aliens

I do love reading the Fandom Friday posts over at Female Geek Bloggers network; this week the theme is Aliens :-)

Now, bearing in mind I've been on our planet for 4 decades I have loads of aliens to choose from and a big X-Files fan so who (or is that what) on earth/galaxy do I choose??

I'm starting with a golden oldie at number 5 6 - who does not love the original - E.T?  I remember going to the cinema to watch this one, and may be one of very few who was not sobbing their heart out when we all thought E.T had died in the ditch... Oh, spoiler alert.... but that has often played on my mind!

Not entirely sure if I can class Diva Plavalaguna as an alien as she doesn't come to Earth.... but if she did OMG I'd go see the blue beaut sing!

Going back in time again to Roswell - I LOVED this show!!  I have nothing more to add, I loved every episode so of course Max was going to be in my top 6 (yeah I can't narrow it down to 5!!)

The next 2 aliens hit the comedy spot for me - as well as being adorable!  First of the two is naughty Paul.  Is he not the alien everyone wants to meet?  He's the alien I want to hang out with, he's the one you want to go for a beer with and well just generally have a laugh with :-)

The next alien deserves a mention for being one of the first ones I met.  I used to watch every week as Mork called Orson and relayed back to his home planet just how weird us Earthlings can be.

The wonderful Robin Williams, taken too early, will always be loved by many.

And finally, my number 1 alien is of course The Doctor (have you not seen my wallpaper back there?)!  Who else would I have chosen?  I've watched Dr Who from a kid, I've watched from behind the sofa, cushions and my fingers - the Daleks scared the bloody crap out of me!  Now, whilst I can watch a whole program without peeping through my fingers - I do give certain statues a sideways glance when I pass them...... Don't Blink!

So who/what is your number 1 Alien?

Goodwood FOS 2015

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015
Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015
Oh hello, Goodwood!

I have not been to Goodwood FOS for 4 years, and it's not because we now have Max, it's because once a year I have a full stock count at work to facilitate and it takes two days, and it always falls over the Festival of Speed weekend!  BUT, I've managed to get the count down to one day and this year I managed to WIN tickets.
